EMPOWER YOUR STUDENTS WITH CREATIVE LEARNING

“A true pioneer experience”

The Dickson Store Museum educational program  identifies the importance of the pioneer era, and the impact pioneers had on building our country. Costumed interpreters will present interactive and fun learning experiences. The staff will streamline any program to meet the needs of a group.

School Tours the Dickson Store Museum Offers:
 
Pre School & Kindergarten Tour: “Connecting With The Community”hanging clothes
Objective: Introduce students to community, culture and environment.
Activities: Wash stand, clothes line, clothes pin critters, and songs and stories.
Curriculum: Social Studies Topic 2
 
 
Grade One: “Connections To The Past”
Objective: Students will be introduced to changes in shopping, transportation and family life.
Activities: Wash stand, sawing wood, building a pioneer toy, games and stories
Curriculum: Science Topic C: Building Things.  Social Studies Topic 1:  Moving forward with the Past.
 
 
Grade Two: “A Community In The Past”
Objective: Students will learn about homesteading and the role of a general store in a pioneer community.
Activities: Wash stand, sawing wood, old fashioned games and crafts.
Curriculum: Science Topic D : Hot and Cold Temperatures,. Social Studies Topic I: A Community In The Past.
 
 
Grade Three: “Connecting With The World”
Objective: Students will learn about traditions, stories and customs related to their cultural past.
Activities: Sawing wood, candle dipping, tin can telephones, construct a model using pioneer tools and equipment.
Curriculum: Science Topic B: Building With A Variety of Materials. Science Topic D: Hearing and Sound. Social Studies Topic I: Communities In The World.
 
 
Grade Four: “Emigration Experience”
Objective: Through narration and exploration students will learn about the people in this community.
Activities: Interactive use of pulleys and levers, egg candling demonstration, measuring, games, and crafts
Curriculum: Science Topic D: Wheels and Levers. Science Topic B: Light and Shadows. Social Studies Topic 2:  The Stories, Histories and People of Alberta
 
 
 Grade Five-Seven: “Histories and Stories of Early Alberta”
Objective:  Students will explore events and activities that shaped this community in its early days.
Activities:  Learning about the early explorers, pioneers, surveyors and the aboriginals peoples through evidence and stories. Related to language arts, science, social studies and art as proposed by the teacher.
Curriculum: Science Topic 6.D Evidence and Investigation. Social Studies Topic: 5.2 Histories and Stories and Ways of Life in Canada Social Studies Topic: 7.2 Following Confederation.

Additional School Tour Information

School Tours Operate:

May– August 31

(accommodation to year round schooling)

Cost per Student:

 $2.00 for tour and additional $1.00 for ice cream

Adult/Student Ratio: 1:8

Duration of Programs:

 Programs are a minimum of 2 hours long,

Groups over 50 will require more time.

Cancellation Policy:

Please notify museum coordinator within 48 hours of school tour booking schedule

Program Material:

Confirmation of booking and itinerary

Additional learning activities provided upon request.

Additional Costs:

Ice cream, old fashioned candy and souvenirs.

Lunch:

Bag lunch picnic area and washroom facilities are on site
