Dickson Store Museum Gets Vandalized
On the night of June 15th, 2010 the Dickson Store Museum was hit by vandals, who smashed out several of the windows. The manager says the ringing of her telephone around 1:30 am in the morning awakened her. The frantic voice on the other end belonged to a neighbour, who lives across the street from the museum. He began by saying the museum was broke into and the alarm is ringing. When she arrived on site the alarm had stopped and doors were secure. Early the next morning she was notified that several of the windows were smashed. That morning the mess had to be cleaned quickly because a school group of approximately 100 people was arriving at 9:45am. A big thank you to Bill Taylor and Ken Lightbown, who came to the rescue and put plastic over the broken windows, and to all who helped clean the mess inside the museum. What on earth is wrong with society today? What type of pleasure would anyone get from this type of vandalism? I guess one must consider the source. The museum has been hit several times over the past couple of years. Our purity flour sign was taken off the west wall and totally destroyed with gunshots, a hit and run to our garage resulted in a huge expense due to the fact we had to have knives made so that the siding would be authentic and meet Historic Sites standards, the west wall was covered in graffiti in March 2010, and now this. Citizens of Dickson would you please keep your eyes and ears open with the hopes that someone will hear or see something that will lead us to the culprits. The museum being non-profit does not have a huge budget and cannot include items such as this. If you are able to help us out to finance these disasters please send your donation to the Dickson Store Museum at Box 146, Spruce View, Alberta T0M 1V0
